VARM O KALL :  ” KILLING TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE, COLD AND WARM “

A table mat, which can retain heat or cold, only the Täljsten Varm O Kall stone has this dual function. Useful and very practical!  The Täljsten Varm O Kall stone can be used both for serving at table or in the kitchen during food preparation to keep things warm or cold.

The Täljsten Varm O Kall stone is 20 cm wide and 2 cm thick.  It comes with a cork trivet designed to protect your surfaces from the heat or cold retained by your Täljsten Varm O Kall stone.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE / MAINTENANCE

To keep things hot : The Täljsten Varm O Kall stone can be put in the microwave for a few minutes or for a quarter of an hour or more in a traditional oven. Once hot, the Täljsten Varm O Kall stone will allow you to keep warm, either at table or in the kitchen, all your sauces, cheeses, petit fours, quiches, hot drinks … Food and drink will be kept hot for about an hour.

Keeping hot

In the microwave – Heat the Varm O Kall stone in the microwave for 5 minutes (at 750 W). Place the hot stone on its cork trivet. Put food and drinks in their containers onto the stone. The food and drinks will be kept hot. The stone remains at a temperature of over 50°C for 45 minutes (see above chart)..

In a traditional oven – Place the Varm o Kall stone in a pre-heated oven for 15 minutes or more (thermostat 5 to 8). Place the hot stone on its cork base. Put food and drinks in their containers onto the stone. The food and drinks will be kept hot. Heated at 250°C for 1 hour, the stone remains at a temperature at over 100°C for 45 minutes (see above chart).

Place the hot stone onto the cork trivet covered in aluminium foil. Then put food and drinks either in their containers or directly onto the stone.  

To keep things cold : The Varm O Kall stone stops your ice-creams or sorbets from melting, keeps butter, milk products and fruit juices cool and will ensure that your starters stay nice and fresh (creams, mousses, terrines, gaspacho,)

The Varm O Kall stone is perfect to aerate and refresh red wines in a flat bottom carafe whose serving temperature is between 14°C and 17°C.

Keeping cold

In the freezer -Put the Varm O Kall stone in the freezer for 2 hours. Place the cold stone onto its cork trivet. Put food and drinks in their container onto the stone. The food and drinks will be kept cold. Placed in the freezer for 2h at -25°C, the stone will remain at 0°C for 30 minutes. 

Aerate and refresh red wines in a flat bottom carafe whose serving temperature is between 14°C and 17°C. Pour the wine in the carafe and put onto the Varm O Kall stone taken out from the freezer after 2 hours. The wine temperature in the carafe will decrease by 4 – 5°C after 45 minutes.

Maintenance : The cork trivet is only designed for the hot or cold stone to be placed upon it.  Never heat the cork trivet with the stone either in the microwave or the oven. Täljsten Varm O Kall is dishwasher-safe. After washing, leave to dry for at least 24 hours before re-using in the microwave. A quick sanding with 120 grain sandpaper will get rid of the most resistant of stains and allow the stone to go back to its original brilliance.
